SPRAY TANNING FAQs

  • Shaving and exfoliation should be done at least 24 hours before your scheduled spray tan appointment. Exfoliating is crucial so your tan doesn’t fade patchy. When exfoliating, pay special attention to dry areas such as hands, elbows, knees, and ankles. A loofah or our exfoliating mitt is ideal. When shaving, try to use a new razor. Doing this 24 hours before your tan gives the skin and pores enough time to go back to normal so the spray tan doesn’t seep into pores producing dark dots in the areas you shaved.
  • Applying a new spray tan over an old spray tan will cause an unfavorable result. Please be sure to completely remove any old spray tan you might have left on your skin using our exfoliating mitt.
  • Showering the day of your spray tan is okay as long as it is just to rinse off – cold water is best for this.
  • After your shower make sure you don’t apply any deodorant, lotions, perfumes, oils, or makeup leading up to your appointment. The spray tan will interact with ingredients in these items and can discolor the areas of your skin where these products are applied.

On the day of your spray tanning appointment, follow these steps to ensure a flawless spray tan:

  • Do not wear moisturizers, sunscreen, perfume, make-up, or deodorant the day of your appointment.
  • Keep in mind that any shampoo or conditioners you use on your hair prior to your tan will leave a film on your skin causing a barrier so please be sure to wash and condition your hair first and then exfoliate your body with our exfoliating mitt so as not to have product left on your skin.
  • Please do not shower at least 4 hours prior to your spray tan. Doing so can open up your pores and will result in an uneven splotchy tan.
  • Please wear or bring loose clothing! Proper clothing play a key part in keeping a freshly applied spray tan flawless during development. Wearing loose dark clothing after your tanning application is a must, a loose maxi style dress works well. In the winter months we suggest loose pajama style pants and an oversized zippered sweatshirt.
  • All fitted pants, including yoga pants, will remove the tan from your legs.
  • Wear flip flops to prevent streaks on your feet.
  • On rainy days, wear slippers or Uggs, a loose zippered hoodie sweatshirt, and loose sweats (without the elastic band at the ankle) or pajama pants. And don’t forget your umbrella!
  • Men are required to wear underwear or swim shorts during their spray tan.
  • No sweating/ showering for 8-12 hours after your spray tan.
  • When you rinse off your tan, only use water. Do not scrub or shave. Your first rinse should be brief making sure you gently but thoroughly “wipe” the cosmetic bronzer off of your skin using your hands only. You will see color coming off during your first rinse…this is normal, you want all of the cosmetic bronzer to come off in that first rinse.
  • Do not use any soap during your first rinse. For best results wait 12-24 hours from your initial rinse to use any soaps or lotions. Deodorant is fine.
  • Please do not pee in the shower when you rinse off the spray tan, the ammonia in the urine will cause your tan to streak.
  • Once out of the shower pat your skin dry, do not rub. You will want to continue to pat your skin dry for the duration of your spray tan.
  • Moisturize following your second shower. The more you moisturize the longer the tan will last. The more you sweat/shower the faster the tan will fade.
  • A spray tan should be the last beauty service you get leading up to an event. For example, all waxing/nail appointments should be done at least 24 hours before your spray tan appointment.
  • Do not spray tan within 2 weeks of getting a sunburn, your skin can peel days/weeks later and peel off the spray tan.
  • There are outside factors that will naturally make a spray tan fade faster such as chlorine in pools, swimming in the ocean, working out (sweating) in tight clothing, using products with alcohol / drying agents, etc. so just make sure to keep all of these in mind when you have your spray tan to make it last as long as possible.
